PROGRAM OVERVIEW

There are key differences between primary and secondary care in most countries. The comprehensive GINA strategy documents provide detailed information on asthma care intended mainly for use by non-specialist healthcare provider in primary and secondary care worldwide. This activity reviews principles of implementation of the GINA strategy in primary care.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This educational initiative has been designed for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, respiratory therapists, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers involved in the management of patients with asthma.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe the principles of diagnosis, management, monitoring of asthma in primary care
  2. List the education needs of people with asthma in primary care
  3. Describe implementation of good asthma care (both chronic and acute) in primary care practice
  4. Discuss strategies to ensure patient safety in primary care and when to refer patients for specialist assessment and care

DIRECTIONS TO LEARNER

The fee for participating and receiving credit for this activity is $20 USD. During the period of May 7, 2020 through May 7, 2021, participants must:

  1. Enroll in the course and complete payment of $20 USD
  2. Read the learning objectives and faculty disclosures
  3. Complete the pretest
  4. Study the educational activity
  5. Complete the posttest and the evaluation form

A statement of credit will be issued only upon receipt of a completed activity evaluation form and a completed posttest with a score of 70% or better. Pharmacists must check the CPE monitor for their credits within 60 days of the activity.
