‘Asthma’ and ‘COPD’ are umbrella labels for heterogeneous conditions that are characterized by airway obstruction. They each include several different clinical phenotypes, which may have different inflammatory patterns and different underlying mechanisms. This activity will assist clinicians to distinquish asthma from typical COPD and asthma-COPD overlap and select appropriate initial treatments for these patients.
